Chicago Thieves Are Out Stealing Whole Central Air Units

The Chatham neighbourhood of Chicago is suffering from a rash of air conditioner thefts right now. Turns out the criminals are stealing the entire units, not just a pipe here and there. I mean… at least they’re dedicated?

According to CBS Chicago, the copper inside the ACs is sold for scrap, great for making enough money for a quick fix. Never underestimate the power of addiction. Residents in the neighbourhood are now being advised to lock up their units extra tight with multiple locks to stop the thieves. It’s hot enough without this sort of trouble.
