Here’s What Happens At A Busy NYC Intersection

Ron Gabriel lives in NYC and wants “to show our interconnected role in improving the safety and usability of our streets.”

Instead of writing some tired editorial, the visual artist pointed a camera at a busy New York City intersection and recorded what happens when cars, bikes and pedestrians come together in one place. I’m not sure what’s more impressive — the videography or that nobody got hurt during the making of the film. [Ron Gabriel via Kottke]

Proof cyclists think they get to make up their own rules!

Nope, proof that NYC cyclists, couriers in particular, are nuts (for further evidence see http://youtu.be/FWf2JyIKrN4). Interesting that you chose to ignore the cars making up their own rules.

What I think this video shows is that when the rules are treated as rather “elastic” then people tend to adapt and keep themselves safe. The “no rules” approach works pretty well too – http://kottke.org/04/06/traffic-calming
