With Virgin, Crazy Johns, and even Telstra jumping on the sub $100 Android wagon, it’s no surprise that Optus will have its own budget Huawei offering from this Friday.
The Ideos X1 has fairly similar specs to those phones linked above, and looks like a great alternative to a Nokia dumbphone.

Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 6:24 PMSounds like the Samsung Galaxy GT-S5570 Optus Pre-paid I just bought. As an Apple iPod Touch and iPad Mk1 user I must say I’m very impressed with the Galaxy and Android 2.2 and am glad to be using it. If Apple had priced it’s iPhone realistically I might not have been tempted to the Dark Side. But, I’m glad I was. What a pity Apple has lost it’s market lead. I predict in 12 months iOS will be replaced by Android as market leader. Wither Windows Phone?????

Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 9:39 PMI totally agree. I still have an iPhone 4 and love it but the price is definitely a limited market at the price. If the rumors of a cheaper iPhone 4GS and then normal priced iPhone 5 are true that might be enough to give Apple back the win. But sooo far it’s only rumors and Android is Fact.

Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 10:21 PMThese cheap Androids are really taking users away from Nokia more than anyone else. You don’t need majority usage share to change the world and Apple has never been the “market leader” in raw usage numbers. I predict that Apple will stay around the 20% level but continue to bring out better and better products that everyone wants but can’t afford.
There’s really only one iPhone but there’s hundreds of “Android”s so none of them really can stand out. At least they are coming down in price.
I have a 3yo Nokia and it will probably die soon – will have to see if I can afford iPhone (5?) or just keep my current SIM in a cheapie like this one.
