Are You Ready For IMAX-Caliber SUPER HI-VISION TVs?!

Because they have nothing better to do, Sharp went ahead and crammed 33,177,600 pixels into a prototype 85-inch display— a resolution of 7680×4320 with a pixel density of 103ppi—labeled it SUPER HI-VISION and called it a day.

By comparison, a 4K display of the same size would have a pixel density somewhere around 55ppi. Resolution-wise, this is in the league of an IMAX display, but those screens are gargantuan. This begs the question: do we really need all that resolution in a display so (relatively) tiny? Some of us would say no. [Sharp via Geeky Gadgets and Engadget]
