When you think about it, the design for the humble automobile hasn’t changed much over the past few decades. Sure, you have different classes of cars, but they all conform to a fairly standard formula. The three door Hyundai Veloster is a bit different, a coupe/hatchback design with a single rear door on one side.
While the three door design isn’t exactly unique (the Mini Cooper Clubman also has a single rear door design), it is kind of strange to look at. According to Alborz Fallah at Car Advice, Hyundai have indicated that the car will launch in Australia this year, with the rear door being conveniently located on the left hand side of the vehicle.
Details on the Australian version of the car still need to be worked out, but if you look at international versions of the car, you can expect touchscreen navigation, integrated Bluetooth and a USB port with iPod connectivity, as well as reverse cameras and a funky, semi-hidden handle on the rear door.
Given that a third door would do away with the need for bulky university students to clambor over the front seat of a 2 door hatch, this is a brilliant idea. It will be interesting to see just what kind of price tag and features are offered when it goes on sale late this year.

Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 1:00 PMthe coupe door is easier to get in and out of for the driver and pushed the pillar away from ur peripheral vision.
the 2 doors is for the gumby passengers to get in and out of without contorting and demolishing your new seats.
works well… now to see how the insurance companies will charge to cover it

Monday, March 5, 2012 at 1:52 PMI saw one at Bunnings and it caught my eye. It looks like a 2 door coupe from one side so looks might count from the driver’s side.
At least they kept the price down and they look awesome. I was hoping it was NOT electric.
Only other cool car in that range for me is KIA COUPE or KOUPE?
Mind you all I seem to be interested lately is fuel economy and stereo.
