Russian Bomb Squad Successfully Defuses Sex Toy

A post office in Russia was evacuated on Monday after an alert Russian postal worker called authorities over a package making a “strange ticking sound”.

After securing the building, the bomb squad discovered the source of the noise: a vibrator. (The device had apparently been turned on accidentally.) The AFP reports that “nerves are on edge” and Russians are jittery; in Russia, one supposes, sex toy vibrates you. [AFP; image of Russian police via AP]

My wife had a similar problem at Auckland airport, at the security check gate, she was asked to open her bag as it was buzzing, and a crowd of grinning staff gathered round, in the end it was her electric toothbrush, much to the disappointment of the gathered crowd.

This happened during the Sydney Olympics in 2000 at Central Station. A suspicious package left on the platform caused a scare and evacuation, was found to be a sex toy too.
