Did Anybody Buy A 3DS Today?

Gizmodo AU

Despite my misgivings about 3D in general, the 3DS went on sale today and flew off shelves. Given Gizmodians tendency to be among the early adopters of any technology launch, we want to know if you picked up the new Nintendo handheld today.

If you did pick up a 3DS today, tell us your thoughts about the glasses-less 3D gaming experience in the comments below.

I don’t even know if it’s worth getting the 3DS… They’re only going to bring out a 3DSi…. in two years.

For some reason, I feel different when I think of getting the new iPhone…..

You know it’s already got a camera built in right? Not buying something now because they’re only going to bring out a new one in few years is such a redundant idea

Picked up one at midnight, AR games are pretty impressive. The 3D camera is terrible and got old after taking 2-3 pics. SSF4 is pretty good except getting used to the controls is the biggest problem with it.

Just out of curiosity, what’s wrong with Rabbids? I was so close to buying it this morning.

But if you haven’t played Rayman 2?
Hard to believe that a highly rated port with updated graphics and an improved control scheme is going to suck?… I can think of another game coming out around July that also meets those criteria.. but by all accounts I’ve heard its not looking like a bad thing..

(Was going to link to n64 Oot but the link appears to be broken at the minute… Scored 99)

Bought one for me and one for my brother. Love it. Can’t wait for OoT, Star Fox and for some reason, Pilotwings.

Turns out the 3DS doesn’t work if you close one eye.Guess Nintendo really is serious about clamping down on pirates this hardware generation

I got one with Star Wars and Street Fighter. Have yet to really play it but so far I’m rather impressed by it. The cameras get a bit old fast but the AR cards are fun just for that.

I picked up my 3DS today, I am very impressed with the hardware but not with Dick Smith.

I placed my order for a 3DS with Rayman and bonus start up kit and stylus pack.

Yesterday, at lunch, I placed an order for Super Street Fighter IV, hoping it would get here today.

I got home yesterday afternoon from work to find a “please confirm your identity for security” email.

I called them straight away and they asked a few questions.

    Name
    Address
    What credit card was used
Last purchase I made with them.

Why? Because I had made four orders recently and they wanted to make sure I am who I say I am.

So then I asked them even with the questions they asked, how could that help them make sure I was telling the truth. The guy on the phone was stunned. Then I was told that because I didn’t call them earlier in the afternoon, the Street Fighter game would be delayed. I told him that it was pretty crap that a customer was penalised because they had made multiple purchases (all for Nintendo products mind you) two orders for Pokemon, one for a 3DS and one for street fighter.

I thought no biggie, I’ll still get the 3DS tomorrow.

It arrived this morning. The 3DS is amazing, the AR cards are great, and I’m having fun with Nintendogs (Rayman is not so good.) Unfortunately the accessories bundled with my 3DS are all for DSI.

The screen protectors were too big for the bottom screen and too small for the top.

    Styluses are all for DSI

I called them and they told me they would get back to me.

Two hours later they offered to send me out a new kit of styluses, then I asked about the screen protectors… they will get back to me.

So after all that, I have now had to go and fork out extra money for what I should have got with the 3DS. I don’t know if anyone else is in the same boat as me, but Dick Smith Online has gone from being my top place for games to the bottom of the pile.

    3DS = AMAZING.
    Dick Smith = FAIL

Can you tell me how this goes? I got the same deal, and I wasn’t really happy with getting DSi stuff either….

I’ve never owned anything Nintendo. Parents weren’t cashed up as a kid and as an adult, the Wii is good for a few party games, but I can’t see me using it full time. I have a PS3 sitting here that gets turned on once every 3 months or so as it is.

Gotta admit though, they seemed to have implemented AR pretty well. Time will tell if the developers use it’s full potential. Will wait for a price drop and see what games are around by then. Knowing me, I’ll lose interest before then and just go buy another new gun.

Dude, the 3D camera is the best bit! Play around with angles and some photo’s turn out amazing. Even simple ones like a water bottle on a table stand out like crazy! You can also use the joystick in photo viewer mode to adjust 3D which is AWESOME!

I bought one, it’s quite fun to play around on. can’t wait for some more games to come out. I think the shop and internet browser will need to be coming out pretty soon though, having the icons there is quite annoying.

The 3D adds great depth to ssf4 in my opinion. Seems like tech companies are not including high quality cameras in their products, like last week I picked up an iPad 2. i thought the camera qaulity was very poor (I still think the iPad is still a great device). The fact that nintendo has a 3D camera sort of makes up for the poor qaulity by adding 3D photography. Nintendo needs to make sure it releases the best games it can to keep the console going otherwise it’ll be like my wii sitting around gathering dust. I do recommend To buy a 3DS especially if you’re in need of an upgrade from the first gen. SSF4 is definatly the first game to buy with the console.

Picked mine up from Kmart today, and got Super Street Fighter, loving it so far. First game-related thing that I’ve bought on release :D

All game shops were surprisingly empty at opening.

I picked one up to upgrade from an original DS on it’s last legs, the 3D is really impressive. I thought the AR Cards would be the biggest gimmick, but you can have a lot of fun with the games associated with the ‘?’ card. Not blown away by any launch titles, only picked up Lego Star Wars, can’t wait for Zelda though!

Got one, but only because I figured that the trade in value of my DSi wasn’t going to get any better.

Did not get any games, though. Nothing is worth it yet. I can wait.
