Apple Selling iPad 2 At 5pm Friday, Closing Shop At 5:30pm…

Getting information out of Apple can be more painful than the thought of pushing a nail through your eyeball, which is why it’s a good thing Gus over at Lifehacker put himself on the line to discover whether or not some Apple stores would extend shopping hours on Friday given the iPad 2 is only going on sale at 5pm.

It turns out that certain Apple retail stores – Castle Hill, Charlestown, Chatswood, Chermside and Robina – all have closing times of 5:30pm on a Friday night. After first contacting Apple PR, and then trying to call the stores directly, and then looking up the stores online, it seems that none of them have any plans to extend their opening hours.

Of course, what Apple’s website says and what happens on the day when there are queues lining up through the shopping centres could be completely different things. Unless Apple does have a limited amount of stock and expects to sell all their iPad 2 models in these stores within 30 minutes.

Either way, if there’s a big queue outside these stores when you arrive at 5pm tomorrow, your chances aren’t good of walking away with a shiny new iPad…
