Commonwealth Bank Real Estate iPhone App Augments Awesomeness

Gizmodo AU

Augmented reality is all kinds of awesome, especially when it’s used for something practical. And the upcoming Commonwealth bank Real Estate iPhone app looks like it will be extremely practical for anyone in the property market.

The app pulls data from realestate.com.au and rpdata.com, in order to give you up to the date information on properties around the country.

By pointing your iPhone’s camera at a property, the app will give you information about past sales history, current property listings and recent sales, nicely overlaid over the property you’re interested in. You can also drop back into a “bird’s eye view” to see information on properties that match your “dream home” description.

The app is apparently “coming soon” to the app store, although CBA promises video of it working next week.

This would be brilliant if they do a version, or add, a rental functionality. My lease will be up in a couple of months and if I can see a place I like, hold my phone up to it and it tells me prices, when it’s available, that would be fantastic.

Will they do it? There’s no money in it for them, so no. :(

      Tom,
Try LiveSpot Property on the augmented reality browser Layar for sales and rentals

      Browse to http://m.layar.com/open/livespotproperty
from your iPhone or Android device

      Enjoy.

Livespot doesn’t show sales history information. It’s also on the very bloated and extremely buggy Layar platform so its pretty useless.

Housefinder on the other hand, is the height of awesomeness.

Height of awesomeness or invasion of privacy?

They’d just be piping the data from the address, they’re just making it nice and easy from what you could look up online anyway. You might as well blame Google for invasion of privacy for the same reasons.

The free app called “Layar” has a similar setup, but no property history, just new for sale and rental listings from domain.com.au. You can also select all types of other layers showing nearby attractions.

    Augmented reality is fun ;)

You where once a shining star in this world but with Facebook, Gmail, CBA real estate Apps Location and GPS we would need to say that your star is close to extinction.

Isn’t this the same as the one by st.george?

“housefinder” seems to have very similar if not the same capabilities as described above?

Obviously ‘coming soon’ means sometime in the next decade? Still can’t see anything in the app store. Thanks for the fluff CBA!
