The ABC just sent through some of the early figures from their iView partnership with Sony on the Playstation 3, and it’s pretty mind-blowing… During the first two weeks, they had over 110,000 visits to the service from the PS3.
In the week leading up to the launch (between the 9th and 15th of November), 83 people accessed iView through the PS3′s web browser. In the following week (November 16-22), they had 26,000, with the vast majority of them visiting on November 22 when the iView icon appeared in the PS3′s XMB. The following week, 89,000 visits to the service came from Playstation owners.
As a percentage, that final week (which is the first week that the service was available for the whole week), PS3 viewing made up about 28% of the overall visits to the iView service. That’s huge.
As a side effect, the service also had its biggest month ever, with 356,000 visitors in November, an increase of 24% over October.
Personally, I can’t wait to see the December figures. It seems to me that both Sony and the ABC should be pretty stoked with those numbers…
