Weekend Gadgets: Lego Mindstorm NXT And Livescribe Pulse Smartpen

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. A courier just arrived at the office with a Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 kit for me to play with. My weekend is now a write-off.
Another gadget that’s made its way into my hot little hands this week is the Livescribe Smartpen. I’ve had a cursory play with it, and I think I’m falling in love. It’s probably not something I’m going to play with over the weekend, but I’m about to head over to Apple to have a briefing on Snow Leopard, and I reckon I’ll be putting it through its paces a bit.
But really, my weekend is now all about the Lego. I mean, who wouldn’t want to build a Shooterbot? That’s what life’s all about, isn’t it?
What gadget-related adventures have you guys got in store this weekend?

wow, is there anything in the world more awesome than free lego?
Sadly, it’s gotta go back in a couple of weeks. Nnnoooooooooo!!!
well that gives you a week to build a robot that will automatically break out of its box, find and return to you once it has been taken back! be sure to build in stealthy characteristics.
My parents are going to Cairns this weekend, so I’m going to “borrow” their Wii. What? Of course I’ll give it back!
Hey Nick, any chance of ‘accidentally’ forgetting to return that Lego kit and instead send it my way?
Well, have a great weekend :)!
Maybe you could build a robot to use the pen.. two birds with one stone.
OOOOOOOOH Lego. Are they actually selling the Mindstoms NXT in AUS now? I’ve never seen it anywhere (just like those Nerf guns people keep on talking about).
hey nick the new lego is awesome, got it at the beginning of the month here in the uk while in legoland. i’ve only had time to make the shooter bot and the gator but both are cool. i want you to make the rubix cube solver!
The LiveScribe pen looks pretty cool – is there one that records what you write (vs. what you say?) I’d love to do a search of my hand written notes for key words and stuff – forget this analogue page flipping bizwhackery!!
Hi Mike,
The pen actually does record what you write; it uses an infrared camera and tracks your handwriting which can be transferred to your computer where you can search for words in the pages! They also have handwriting converting software for a fee if that interests you.
Livescribe recently lowered the prices for the 1gb and 2gb Pulse smartpens. On top of that, I know a 5% discount code if you’re interested!
I have been involved with using the livescribe via work – and it totally, totally rocks. We are looking to purchase a second.
ps please can i have the lego mindstorm, santa*???
* i know santa reads this.
