Slingbox Finally Selling In Australia From June 1

Local distributors of the Slingbox Digital Products Group hit a couple of hurdles after sending out the announcement that they were releasing the Slingbox in Australia back in March. But, according to an email received by tipster Con, they’re back on track and launching June 1.Sadly, the SlingLink Turbo products are still TBC, but it’s good to know that we should be slinging our TV signals around the world very shortly…

The Slingbox Pro, Slingbox Solo and SlingCatcher will be in stores on June 1st, finally! The SlingLink Turbo will arrive later.
They should be available for purchase or order at all stores that carry DPG distributed products: Harvey Norman, JB HiFi, The Good Guys, Miranda HiFi, Clive Anthony’s, Bing Lee, Retravision, Domayne etc.

We’ve contacted DPG for confirmation of the tipoff, and will update when we hear back from them…

[Thanks Con]

What about the Slingplayer software for the iPhone…. is that going to become available for the Australia ITMS? I have a Sling box already and am awaiting this software… anyone know?

Ehh. It’s a shame they didn’t offer an online netflix like service. All they’re doing here is offering something itunes already offers. Unless the prices are better, or they offer a more wide selection, i don’t see this doing very well..

We our shitty internet speeds, I’m suprised that they even bothered.

My Sling is invaluable… I have multiple computers around the house and up until now have used USB TV Tuners to allow TV to be displayed on these… I tried other streaming products, but the Sling just works so brilliantly… There is definately a market for them over here…

My slingbox is in the UK and this weekend I streamed the BBC’s feed of Eurovision (no jokes please on my taste!) without a glitch for over 3 hours at a speed of 600kbit/s on to a 46″ LCD TV , not bad for 12,000 miles. That’s approx 810MB of data (or 6,480Mbits). But watching on a mobile screen you can easily get away with 10 times less data i.e use around 50Kbit/s so doesn’t impact on the mobile data plan at all for general use on the train for example.
