Samsung Omnia Lands On Vodafone And Three

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 1:00 PM on November 10, 2008

It's been coming for what seems like a very long time, and now, thankfully, Samsung's Omnia Windows Mobile smartphone has hit retail shelves in Australia.

It's available through Vodafone's $79 cap and Three's $69 cap, for those of you looking for a non-Apple touchscreen smartphone. And considering that Samsung announced this phone on the same day that Apple launched the iPhone 3G, you can expect a few direct comparisons between the two handsets as reviews start hitting the Australian interwebs. Of course, if you can't wait for that to happen, remember that Jesus had a hands on back in August and was not impressed. So hopefully it's been tweaked a little since then, although it is running Windows Mobile - and we all know how hard it is to polish that...

On telstra - yes it's available through them, incase you enjoy billing practices a little reminiscent of extortion.

On winmo - you can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter!

There's some other samsung i model phone with an 8mp camera that was symbian OS based and otherwise seemed to have better specs, I think i'll hold out for that or maybe the Touch HD.

mr-crash - rofl about the glitter - thats funny - for those in the know (no I'm not) apparently there is diffreent 'shells' you can impliment on this phone to make it better?

No Telstra has NOT and probably will not get this phone. Its not the f408t NOR is it the U900 its the i900 (Omnia)

Just wish Crazy Johns would get it sooner rather than later.

Actually Telstra does have the Samsung f408t and is selling them at the moment. For some reason they just never had a major press release about it. Probably thought it would get confused with the Omnia. I work at a Telstra store and weve been selling them, for about a week now

ATT: NEEN : the main differences between f8ot an omnia are... f48ot : no gps, smaller screen, no etiquitte mode, same camra though, and no um no accelerometer, better coverage though as it is with next g.... omnia: windows makes it a bit sluggish an it is not as finger friendly as the f480t... tough descision.. personally im waiting for less flaws... sumsang said telstra may not get samsung omnia..
