New TiVo Ad Seems Vaguely Familiar

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 10:59 AM on July 14, 2008

Channel 7's new ad for TiVo has hit the airwaves (and YouTube), and it's not too bad an effort - towers made from videos build up around an animated TiVo icon, which then sucks them all down inside it at the end of the ad.

The problem is, like Sony's bunny ad before it, this one borrows pretty heavily from someone else's work. In this case though, it's not some obscure artist that's been ripped off, it's Apple.

The similarities are pretty obvious when you look at them one after the other, aren't they? I wonder whether Apple will unleash the hounds lawyers, or if they've got too much to deal with at the moment to really care.

Are they serious? One of these days Apple is actually going to cain someone because of this...

It's not even 'trying' to be different... losers.

For years it has been rumored that Apple is interested in buying TiVo or at least striking a major deal to improve the marketability of their AppleTV by adding TiVo. Why would TiVo deliberately upset one their potential buyout suitors? Maybe Apple is ok with it... after all the TiVo HD in Australia will be able to download videos from your TiVo to your iPod... I can't wait to see that commercial!

Wow, what's with the dire hatred of TiVo? The Australian people who buy TiVos have probably never seen that iPod ad before in their life. I never had, before now, and I'm on the Apple/tech scene.

We get it, you don't like TiVos because you're a techo. But there's a whole 'nother group of people out their who'd suit one just fine.

I know. Sure with all the money they have you'd think someone over there would have an original idea.

Make you wonder if anything is actually new!
