Apple has today announced its highly anticipated iPhone 13, with four new models to choose from and a tonne of exciting updates from last year’s model.  As always, we have all of the Australian price, specs, pre-order and release date information for you right here.

The new iPhone 13 comes in two different sizes – the standard and mini – as expected. Additionally, it will come in five new colours: pink, blue, midnight (black), starlight (white) and product red.

Meanwhile, the Pro models will come in a standard and Max size, with four shiny new colours: graphite, gold, silver and sierra blue – all with a brand new finish.

Across the board, the new iPhone 13 features the same sleek, flat design we all know and love, with a tonne of new goodies under the hood.

A15 Bionic Chip

The iPhone 13 will debut the brand new A15 Bionic Chip, and Apple seems confident this bad boy is the best in the biz.

According to Apple, the A15 Bionic chip is a whopping 50% faster than the leading competition (however, they didnt specify who exactly this was).

The A15 Bionic chip has a 6-core CPU, 4-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine, which is capable of 15.8 trillion operations per second, according to Apple.

If you upgrade to a Pro model, you can enjoy a 5-core GPU with 50% faster graphics than previous models, thus giving the iPhone 13 Pro the fastest graphics of any smartphone EVER.

Display:

Apple has announced  a new Super Retina XDR display for the iPhone 13, which is 28% brighter than the iPhone 12. This means a maximum 1200 nit peak brightness can be enjoyed on the new model.

The Pro is also fitted with a Super Retina XDR display that gives you a 25% higher maximum outdoor brightness (1000 nits) than the 12 models.

Additionally, the Pro Motion Display will refresh as low as 10Hz and as high as 120Hz that will respond dynamically as you scroll. This offers maximum performance when you need it, but won’t totally obliterate your battery when you don’t.

Camera:

As always, Apple has managed to up the ante when it comes to the camera quality across both photography and videography. So basically, unless you’re a professional, you realistically don’t need to even buy a real camera anymore.

The new iPhone 13 features the most advanced dual camera system we’ve seen to date with a brand new wide camera.

With a f/1.6 aperture, 13mm focal length and a 5 element lens, this is the best iPhone camera we’ve seen to-date.

Additionally, Apple has introduced a brand new cinematic video mode, which essentially allows you to make cinema-quality video from the palm of your hand by holding focus on your subject while you’re shooting.

But if you’re a real camera nerd, you’re probably going to want to splurge on the Pro, which features 3 cameras and a stack of new stuff to play around with.

Apple has introduced a 77mm telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, as well as night mode on all three of the cameras.

Additionally, Pro users will be able to shoot with a macro lens, which has never been done on iPhone before.

This, combined with Pro Res Video for end-to-end pro workflow means this new iPhone 13 Pro range gives you everything you could want from a professional camera, which will make you glad Apple has also finally given us a 1TB storage option.

Battery

With all of these new features, you’ll be pleased to know that Apple has also upped the ante with the battery.

For starters, we’ve got Smart Data Mode – which conserves the battery of your device by shifting to LTE mode when 5G isn’t actually improving your performance. Additionally, if you fork out for the Pro models,, you’ll also get Pro Motion Display, which automatically adjusts the refresh rate to give maximum performance but save battery when possible.

Thankfully, the Mini will enjoy an average of 1.5 hours longer battery life than the 12 Mini, while you get an extra 2.5 hours with the 13 (compared to the standard 12). Similarly, the 13 Pro will enjoy a 1.5 hour longe battery than its predecessors, while the 12 Pro Max gets an extra 2.5 hours.

Yes, the 12 Pro Max now has the longest battery life we’ve ever seen in an iPhone. Cool stuff, if you ask me.
