Huawei Announces Mate 30 Launch Date And We Have NFI What To Expect

Despite potentially lacking Android and almost-definitely lacking Google apps, Huawei has announced the launch of its Mate 30 series.

It’s going to be dropping in Munich on September 20 and we barely know what to expect.

Google Confirms That Huawei's Mate 30 Won't Have Google Apps

Google has confirmed that Huawei's upcoming flagship phone, the Mate 30 pro, won't have access to its apps or the Play Store. This news comes just over a week after the Chinese manufacturer was granted a further 90 days to trade with U.S. companies before being banned.

The tagline for the event is ‘rethink possibilities’. While we can only speculate the meaning behind these words, it seems like an overt nod to the nay saying that has been surrounding Huawei for the past few months.

Whether its specifically referencing the idea of launching a phone without Android or Google suite functionality, the question mark around Harmony OS being ready to launch or something else entirely remains to be seen.

What we do know is that despite the chaos and confusion that U.S. ban and trade war (and its subsequent temporary licences) has caused, Huawei is forging ahead with the release.

There is also still a chance that despite the overall ban the Mate 30 could still wind up with access to Google products and services.

U.S. companies can apply for licenses for certain products to be exempt. The U.S. government has stated that trade licenses can be on a case-by-case basis if “there is no threat to U.S. national security.”

While Google is keeping quiet about whether it has applied for one for the P30, it has previously said it would like to continue working with Huawei.

While this could be cause for some optimism, it’s worth noting that as of last week over 130 licenses had been applied for from companies wishing to service Huawei. The U.S. Commerce Department is yet to grant any.

And despite President Trump stating that the restrictions on Huawei possibly being eased at the Group 20 Summit in July, we are yet to get any further clarification on if and when that could happen.

In the meantime, we can still speculate about the phone itself. According to many leaks and rumours we can probably expect a 6.7-inch QHD+ screen WITH A 90hZ refresh rate, a 4,200mAH battery with 55W SuperCharge functionality.

It also looks like we’ll get a new camera array, which will move to a stunning circular design. The camera setup will allegedly be capable of 5x optical and 50x digital zoom – just like the P30 Pro.

We can also expect Huawei’s latest Kirin 990 processor, which will be dropping at IFA in Berlin this week.

Fingers crossed that all with be revealed on September 20. Though with eighteen days to go there’s still plenty of time for things to change and more trade and political drama to ensue.
