Acer Just Dropped Four New Chromebooks

Day one of IFA has kicked off in Berlin and new laptops are already falling from the proverbial heavens.

Acer was one of the first out of the gate by announcing a slew of new machines, including four Chromebooks. Here’s what we know.

The first two are big bois, with the new Chromebook 315 coming in at 15.6-inches and the Chromebook 314 at 14-inches.

both come with full HD 1920 x 1080 displays, anti-glare wide viewing and IPS3 technology. They’ll clock about 12.5-hours of battery life.

There are also two portable 11.6-inch models, the Chromebook Spin 311 and a regular 311.

The Spin model has a HD touchscreen display that can be converted at 360 degrees to go into tablet, notebook, display and tent modes. There’s a stylus for this as well, but that costs extra.

It’s also quite light at only 1.2kg.

The non-spinning 311 is even lighter at 1.06kg and comes in ether touch or non-touch options so you can pick your poison.

Both models will provide up to 10 hours of battery life.

And all four new Chromebooks come with Gigabit Wi-Fi, 2x USB-C ports, MicroSD, and display output. They’re also devoid of fans and have Google Assistant built in.

Down in the guts of the machines you’ll find either an Intel Celeron N4000 or quad-core Intel Celeron N4100 processor. Or if you’re after the Chromebook 315 and are feeling fancy you can also opt for an Intel Pentium Silver N5000 processor instead.

The 512 can also have up to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The 314 and Spin 311 can rock up to 8GB RAM but only up to 64GB storage.

As for the regular non-moving 311 you’re looking at 4GB RAM and up to 32GB storage. Make sure you have plenty of cloud storage as a backup.

“Today we’re offering four new Chromebooks in three sizes, so consumers can get the right Acer Chromebook with the display size, features and technology that fits their lifestyle needs,” said James Lin, General Manager, Notebooks, IT Products Business at Acer.

“Chromebooks have moved far beyond their original promise of getting computer users online in a quick, secure and easy-to-manage way, now allowing customers to access apps that help with every aspect of their day from budgeting, staying in touch, having fun and taking care of life’s business.”
