Oppo’s Crazy Pop-Up 5G Phone Just Landed In Australia

You didn’t think the 5G news was over for the week, did you?

Oppo just announced its new flagship for Australia, the Reno 5G (as well as a non 5G version).

You may remember us freaking out over its angled pop up camera a little while back, and now it’s arriving here. Here are all the details.

They Come With Free Bose Quiet Comfort 35s)” excerpt=”On Friday Oppo became the second manufacturer to release a 5G phone in Australia. The Oppo Reno is a super unique device with a wild pop-up ‘shark fin’ selfie cam. Like Samsung’s 5G S10, the Reno 5G will be available on the Telstra network first. But the plans for it are cheaper. Much cheaper. Also, we actually know how much it is to buy outright. Here are all of the details.”]

Both variants of the Reno have a 6.6-inch OLED display that has a 93.1% screen-to-body ratio due to that crazy-arse camera.

Speaking of which, the rear of the device includes three lenses – 48MP main, 8MP super-wide 120 degree and a 13MP periscopic zoom.

Combined, they add up to a focal length of 16mm – 160mm which equal 10x hybrid zoom.

When it comes to video, both devices can record at 4K 60fps and includes hybrid stabilisation, 3D audio capture and audio zoom.

As for the selfie cam, which is beginning to grow on me, it has a 16MP lens and a soft flash light. The motor on this bad boy will apparently last for over five years. This figure is based on a use case of one hundred times a day.

Diving into the guts you’ll find a Snapdragon 855 processor, 8GB RAM/256GB storage (it doesn’t seem like the 6GB/128GB variants will be coming to Australia) and a 4,065mAh battery. The latter comes with Super VOOC 3.0 fast charging.

The only difference between the Reno and Reno 5G will be the Qualcomm’s X55 modem injected into the latter.

While a standard edition of the Reno is available internationally, we won’t be getting it here in Australia.

The reason for the dual-unveiling was because the latter was used to announce the Reno 5G, which was demonstrated on Swisscom’s 5G network. But while that’s cool and all, I can’t stop staring intensly at the skewed pop-up camera ‘wedge’.”]

Pre-orders for the Oppo Reno 5G kicks off on May 31, with both devices going on sale on June 11. They’ll be available from Telstra, JB HiFi, The GoodGuys, Officeworks, Mobileciti, Woolworths Mobile, Wireless1 and Telechoice.

The Reno 5G will cost $1,499 and despite us still not knowing what the outright price of Samsung’s Galaxy S10 5G is yet… we’re guessing that this will be cheaper.

It also comes with a filthy good pre-order bonus – Bose QuietComfort 35’s that have an RRP of $499.95.

As for the regular Reno, it will come in at $1,199 and be available from June 11.

Anyone who buys one of the phones on or after the release date will receive a set of Bose SoundSport Free Wireless Earphones valued at $299.95.
