Samsung Galaxy S10 Event: The Live Blog

Samsung Galaxy S10 Event: The Live Blog

For more than half a year the Samsung Galaxy S10 has been leaking something severe. We’re now at a point where it’s finally going to be (officially) introduced to the world.

Unpacked is less than two days away and we’re ready for all of that flagship and foldable news.

Join us for the ride, won’t you?

No more rumours. No more speculation. Over the past six months the Galaxy S10 arguably became the most leaked flagship phone ever. It made the Pixel 3 details look airtight. But it is now officially out in the ethos, and we’re to deliver all the details – including when it will land in Australia and exactly how much it’s going to cost you.”]

Unpacked will be streaming live from San Francisco, and fortunately for us the time difference is actually quite palatable. For those of you who want to join the action, things will be kicking off at 06:00 AEDT on Thursday February 21.

You can watch along with us right here

07:33

And that’s a wrap, folks!

There will still be plenty more S10, Fold and 5G news today – some of which is already live. Thanks for playing! Time for 7 coffees.

07:31

So… still no Galaxy Home then?

07:30

We don’t have Verizon here, but I can reveal something else now.

Telstra has the exclusive carrier rights to the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G in Australia. Nevermind that it will probably be exclusive by default… at least at first. EXCLUSIVE!

[referenced url=”https://gizmodo.com.au/2019/02/surprise-samsung-galaxy-s10-5g-will-be-exclusive-to-telstra/” thumb=”https://gizmodo.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/5g-410×231.jpg” title=”Surprise, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G Will Be Exclusive To Telstra” excerpt=”Back in January, Telstra announced that it had made exclusive 5G deals with some of the world’s biggest phone manufacturers. The telco wouldn’t say who with, but the assumption was that Samsung would be first off the mark. In a move that has shocked approximately no one, it has now been confirmed that Telstra will be the first to sell the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G.”]

07:20

There’s only one model available, so let’s talk specs.

The Galaxy S10 will come with 4,500mAh battery with fast charging, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

On the camera front, we’re looking at 12MP telephoto, 12MP wide-angle and 16MP ultra-wide lenses on the rear, and both a 10MP and 3D depth lenses on the front.

Boy is this thing going to be pricey in Australia.

07:18

Wow, the S10 5G is MUCH thinner than any of us ever expected.

07:16

SURPRISE, HERE’s A 5G S1O, TOO.

07:15

There we go

07:14

TFW you’re trying to prove how good wireless charging tech is and it doesn’t work right away.

07:11

The easy pairing of the Galaxy Buds with the tablet is actually really cool.

07:08

It looks like we’re getting two new wearables – the Galaxy Watch Active and the Galaxy Fit

Both wearables are only compatible with 6 types of exercise, although you can manually add your exercise of choice in. I honestly would have liked to see some more variety here (like the Apple watch 4) to remove that manual aspect.

07:04

The new Galaxy Buds will have adaptive dual microphones and have up to 6 hours of battery life.

You can also charge them via the Wireless PowerShare on the S10.

07:02

The U.S. price just dropped on screen, but you can grab the Aussie pricing and availability right here:

6:58

Some spec comparisons on the 3 models.

06:57

It will also be compatible with Wi-Fi 6, which is 20% faster than the S9.

06:55

Battery time!

The S10e will have 3,100mAh, the S10 3,400mAh and the S10+ jumps all the way up to 4,100mAh.

Again, thanks to the leaks we knew about the Wireless PowerShare.

I have a lot of opinions about this after the Huawei Mate 20 Pro reverse wireless charging. I’m super unconvinced at this point.

06:54

They’re talking gaming. INB4 Todd Howard shows up.

06:50

VERIFY ME, YOU COWARD.

06:59

The head of Instagram just rolled up.

The new S10 camera will have Intagram functionality built in natively. It’s called Instagram Mode, of course.

06:47

Selfie cam time!

The S10+ will be getting two front-facing cameras – 8MO and 10MP.

06:44

Thank you to these YouTubers for giving me a couple of minutes to frantically update 3 posts at once.

06:41

It’s also the first smart phone ever to be able to shoot video in HDR10+ and can be edited via Adobe Premiere Rush from the device itself.

06:40

We’re looking at an AI upgrade, too. The S10 can now recognise 30 different scenes and advise you on how to take the best shot.

06:38

The S10 will have a brand new triple camera rear lens set up – 12MP telephoto, 12MP wide-angle and 16MP ultra-wide.

And the panorama feature will encompass the ground to the sky. It looks stunning.

Will Huawei be able to give Huawei a run for its money when it comes to photography this year?

06:34

The already-leaked in-screen ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is now being explained. Lol, “anti-spoofing”

06:30

We’re starting off with The Hole Infinity )

Ding, dong, the notch is dead!

06:29

And here comes the Galaxy S10!

06:26

Earpiece: “DJ we are running early can you talk for awhile longer, make it feel like we’ve actually been sitting here for 10 years, thanks mate.”

06:25

Can I get a DJ ASMR podcast?

06:22

Jesus, that’s a lot of phones.

06:18

DJ has arrived to drop all that hot S10 news!

06:16

U.S. pricing and availability confirmed! will we see it that early in Australia, though?

06:15

Netflix compatibility confirmed!

06:14

Okay that Google Maps folding capability is sick.

06:13

Thicc

06:10

Under the hood we’re looking at a 7nm processor, 12GB RAM and 512GB storage.

There are also two batteries built into the device, meaning one battery doesn’t have to fold.

06:09

We are looking at 3 app multitasking with the Galaxy Fold.

And App Continuity. You can unfold the device to get a closer look at something

06:05:

Wow they really are jumping straight into the Foldable, and yep it turns out that its called the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

I guess they knew we were impatient.

06:03

We are being treated to a beautiful rendition of Pure Imaginationn, without the creepy Willy Wonka vibes.

06:00

Here we go!

05:59

1 minute to go! will this be the last time I see this loading screen? Please God.

05:57

It’s very subtle

05:55am

Boy is there a lot of rolling characters happening on this pre-show screen. It’s almost like a FOLDABLE DEVICE COULD BE ANNOUNCED FOR REAL THIS TIME.

February 21 05:45am:

Good morning, all you fellow crazy people!

We’re only 15 minutes away from go-time. Now’s your chance to grab your caffeine of choice and a snack. And then get get ready to buckle in. I’m working on 3 hours of sleep. It’s going to be a WILD RIDE.

Update 18:15 February 20:

Less than 12 hours to go now!

Update 09:45 February 20:

With less than 24 hours to go, the Galaxy S10 boat is still leaking.

A Norwegian TV station has accidentally aired an S10 commercial early. Big oof.

While it doesn’t drop any of the specs, it does highlight the rear triple camera setup, on-screen fingerprint scanner, wireless power sharing and The Hole. It also showed off the new Galaxy Buds, which can be wirelessly charged by the S10.

You can watch the commercial and read more here.

If you’ve somehow missed out on all the leaks, rumours and confirmed details thus far, we have some resources for you…

A Leaked Hands On Video

You can no longer view the video but the descriptions remain.

A Possible Spec Sheet

A Roundup Of Rumours

What About The Foldable?

Due to the distinct lack of leaks since the Galaxy X/F/Flex/Whatever was briefly shown off at the Samsung Developer Conference last year, some think that it may not be launching at Unpacked this week.

We hope this theory is incorrect, but even if it is, we’re probably going to see it in some capacity.

On February 11 Samsung released a teaser video for Unpacked that is titled The Future Unfolds with the tagline “The future of mobile will unfold on February 20, 2019.” It’s not exactly subtle.

All we know at the moment is that the device will have a 7.3-inch flexible display and a second “cover screen” on the exterior. Yep, that’s it.

Either Samsung has done a much better job at keeping this under wraps than its most recent flagships, or the theorists may be right.

Can they at least tell us the name? Please!?
