Streaming service Stan has officially unveiled the cast of its upcoming supernatural drama.
Bloom will star two-time Oscar-nominee Jacki Weaver, alongside The Originals and Vampire Diaries actress Phoebe Tonkin, Bryan Brown and Ryan Corr.
Daniel Henshall and Sam Reid complete the main cast of the Stan original, which is expected to launch this summer.
The groundbreaking six-part series, created by Glen Dolman and directed by John Curran, is currently being shot in Victoria.
It centres around events after a catastrophic flood hits an idyllic country town, where a mysterious new plant appears with the power to restore youth.
With its teaser tagline, ‘You’re only young twice’, the series promises to be a gothic fairy tale about the scarcity of time and the choices we make in life.
“I would call it a supernatural drama,” producer Sue Seeary told Gizmodo. “There are mystery elements to it but it’s also a very strong character drama. It’s definitely got its own unique voice, which is exciting.
“The premise of Bloom finds a town left in a kind of purgatory. This terrible event happened, they’ve lost loved ones, and a lot of them can’t really move on. There’s a bit of a surreal element to it where they’re not moving forward.
“[Director] John Curran was very keen to give the look of the show that slightly unworldly sense.”
Bloom, produced by Playmaker, will premiere exclusively on Stan this summer, with Sony Pictures Television to distribute the premium drama globally.
It follows in the footsteps of recent Stan original series including Romper Stomper, Wolf Creek and The Other Guy.
