Ali G, Borat, husband of Aussie legend Isla Fisher, whatever it is he is up to in that pic up there – Sacha Baron Cohen has a few impressive roles under his belt. But it has been a while since we’ve heard from this icon of satirical comedy in masterful disguises – almost a decade, in fact.
That’s about to change, with Who Is America? coming to Stan this month.
Baron Cohen is writing and directing the seven part series, which has been in the works for over a year. Stan says it will “explore the diverse individuals, from the infamous to the unknown across the political and cultural spectrum, who populate the unique nation.”
The first episode will premiere on Stan on July 15 at 3.00pm.
“Sacha is a comedic genius who shocks you with his audacity, bravery and inventiveness,” said President and CEO of Showtime David Nevins. Stan have an exclusive deal with Showtime locally.
“He is the premier provocateur of our time, but not for the sake of ‘gotcha’ moments. Behind the elaborate setup is a genuine quest for the truth about people, places and politics. Nobody knows how to cause a stir like Sacha Baron Cohen, and it’s going to be fascinating to watch what happens when Who Is America? is released on the world.”
Created and executive produced by Baron Cohen, the series is also executive produced by Anthony Hines, Todd Schulman, Andrew Newman, Dan Mazer and Adam Lowitt.
