‘The Wall’ Is Samsung’s New 146-Inch MicroLED TV, And A Wall It Certainly Is

I was just in a room with The Wall. No, not the giant ice barrier keeping the white walkers at bay, you nerds – Samsung’s massive television, featuring new MicroLED technology, among other things.

The Wall was revealed at Samsung’s “First Look” event at CES in Las Vegas, where I’ll be all week.

So what’s the big deal about “The Wall”, other than it being the size of a literal wall?

It’s the MicroLEDs. It promises definition – but without restrictions to size, resolution or form. We’re looking at a self-emitting TV with micrometer scale LEDs that serve as their own source of light.

This means no color filters or backlight, while promising “durability and effectiveness”.

The Wall is bezel-less, as can only be expected by something called “The Wall”, and the screen is adaptable. It is also “modular” – but not in the way we traditionally think of modular. The screen can be programmed to show the picture in different sizes – so, you can have a narrow image that stretches across the whole surface, for example. I’m sure we’ll here more about this.

“At Samsung, we are dedicated to providing consumers with a wide range of cutting-edge screen experiences,” said Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

“As the world’s first consumer modular MicroLED television, ‘The Wall’ represents another breakthrough. It can transform into any size, and delivers incredible brightness, color gamut, color volume and black levels.

We’re excited about this next step along our roadmap to the future of screen technology, and the remarkable viewing experience it offers to consumers.”

The Wall was just one of the products revealed at “First Look” – we covered the event live on our Instagram.
