Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Backtracking on recent comments made to Rolling Stone, Daisy Ridley clarified she is still interested in playing Rey beyond Episode IX in an interview with the BBC.

“When I did sign up, I did sign up for three films and that’s where I sort of saw the story ending,” she said. “I think everyone has perhaps taken that as me going, ‘I don’t want anything to do with it’ which is vastly untrue because this is awesome.”

In related news, Ridley confirmed to ScreenRant that Rey is not the product of immaculate conception.

Daisy Ridley: I mean, I’ve read a fan theory about Immaculate Conception. In fact, that was the only one that I read because someone directed me toward it and I was like you should get to work. Immaculate Conception. Then someone told me that I was actually Snoke or something or other, and it was time travel and I do think it’s hilarious that there’s this like great character and everyone was trying to attribute it to another character.

ScreenRant: Yeah. Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Daisy Ridley: Oh, what? That I’m Obi-Wan Kenobi? No, I heard about Snoke.

ScreenRant: No, that you are Ben Kenobi’s granddaughter is another theory.

Daisy Ridley: Oh. Oh. Oh. I dunno. The only one I read is about Immaculate Conception so technically I’ve never read a real one.

Meanwhile, John Boyega told /Film that The Last Jedi explores the messiness of war in a way we haven’t seen the franchise tackle before.

We’re just keeping it moving to be honest with you, man. It’s true. The pressure’s on, man. There’s no time. I think that’s one thing unique to me about watching this movie was the commentary on war. There hasn’t been a Star Wars movie yet that has explored war in the way The Last Jedi does. It’s very messy; the categorising of good and evil is all mixed together. In terms of Han, I’m sure we all feel sentimental if someone were to sit Finn down, sit Rey down. But Rey’s off training, she’s got stuff to do. I’ve got a back injury, I’ve got stuff to do. I can’t think about Han at the moment.

Lastly, we have a poster from China, and character posters from Spain – all courtesy of Coming Soon.

Escape From New York

Speaking with Deadline, screenwriter Neil Cross revealed the script has received John Carpenter’s seal of approval.

Robert Rodriguez is attached to direct and it’s looking good and exciting. It was quite a challenging script, it’s a challenging thing to reinvent. One of the most terrifying sentences I’ve ever heard in my life is ‘we’ve given the script to John Carpenter’. I crawled around for three days thinking ‘oh my god’ but we got John Carpenter’s seal of approval. He approved it and that’s all I need. You never quite know [if it’s done] but I might need to do some rewrites and do some nip and tuck but in the first approximation, my job is done.

Antlers

Guillermo del Toro is producing a new film from Nick Antosca, the creator of Channel Zero. According to The Tracking Board, the story follows “a fourth-grade teacher who tries to help a troubled boy in her class, only to discover that he’s been hiding a nightmarish secret. Now something terrifying is coming for the boy, and she has to protect him.”

Shazam

During a panel at the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in San Jose, California, Zachary Levi compared the film to both Guardians of the Galaxy and 1988’s Big.

James Gunn and the gang killed it. It brought so much heart and humour and I think it was kind of this dark horse that took everyone by storm. I think Shazam kind of has the possibility to do that, because Shazam is not, for all intents and purposes, it’s not Supes (Superman), it’s not Batman, it’s not Wonder Woman. If you look at most Justice League montages or Justice League posters, Shazam is not necessarily one of the characters you put on there, except he is in the Justice League, so if we do well enough…

Shazam gets to be a fun, jovial, because he is, he’s Billy Batson, he’s 13. It’s the movie Big, but with superpowers – which I’m beyond stoked about.

Doctor Who

Speaking with the Radio Times, Stephen Moffat stated the Christmas special will sow the seeds for the Twelfth Doctor’s decision to regenerate into a woman.

I suppose at the back of my mind I’ve known for ages the next Doctor was going to be a woman – although I didn’t know which woman – so I was thinking, “Why does he subconsciously make that choice?” Maybe seeing the whole span of his life as a man, seeing himself as the Hartnell Doctor, might make him think maybe it’s time to be a bit more progressive. Looking at how the first Doctor was, he’s hilariously not progressive.

Inhumans

Ming Na-Wen seems to have confirmed the show’s cancellation during a recent panel at the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest. Asked if there would be a crossover between The Inhumans and Agents of SHIELD, Wen answered, “I think that show got – ” before stopping herself with a laugh.
