Today, Foxtel lifted the lid on the Foxtel Now box - a new Android TV streaming device that plugs into your TV. Equipped with a 4K-capable Chromecast receiver, a free-to-air tuner and a range of non-Foxtel streaming apps (including Stan), it wants to be the central hub to your entertainment system. Here are the specs, release date and pricing details!
What Is The Foxtel Now Box?
As its name suggests, the Foxtel Now Box is a streaming entertainment centre designed for Foxtel Now customers. It provides live and on-demand access to video content from Foxtel Now's library (subscription required), free-to-air television and third-party streaming apps. It also boasts Chromecast functionality which allows you to beam movies, music and photos from your mobile device to your TV - including 4K video. (Assuming your TV supports that format, of course.)
Foxtel recently replaced its video streaming service with a new platform dubbed Foxtel Now - and it's priced competitively with Stan and Netflix. With subscriptions starting at just $10 per month, it's a far cry from the company's prohibitively expensive Pay TV offerings. (In fact, it's actually cheaper than Netflix's HD tiers which start at $13.99.)
But what do you actually get for your ten dollarydoos? Does Foxtel Now include Game Of Thrones? Do you still need to add a bunch of additional packs to make it worthwhile? We take a look at the prices, inclusions and your frequently asked questions.
The box works with any Foxtel Now account which means there are no lock-in contracts. You won't find Netflix on Foxtel Now Box, but the inclusion of Google Chromecast means you can still access the app - and watch your favourite Netflix shows - on your TV through the device.
