Ever since Thor: Ragnarok began its promotions, fans have been wondering where a certain beloved side character would be, and why they seemed to be nowhere to be found. Now we know what happened.
So Jaimie Alexander, who played Lady Sif in the earlier Thor films, absolutely does not return in Ragnarok, as many of us have inferred or gathered from spoilers already online. According to Alexander, it wasn’t for lack of interest.
“I was asked,” she told Yahoo! Entertainment,” but the timing of when they were going to shoot and when Blindspot was going to shoot – it was pretty much the same time. So there was a conflict there.”
Apparently, the request from Marvel Studios came pretty late, and the actress just wasn’t able to hash out the fine details. “I was hoping for more of a notice [from the studio] so I could make it work, but it was a short notice thing. They called and said, ‘Hey, by the way, would you come do this?’ I said there is no way I can make that work that fast.”
That sounds like there was at least one version of the Ragnarok script that featured Sif in some role, though from the late notice it likely wasn’t a major one. So while Ragnarok has two major women roles in the forms of Valkyrie and Hela, Sif ended up being written out.
“I was bummed about it,” Alexander told Yahoo. We are, too, Jaimie. We are, too.
