Video: Lucifer is one of the most enjoyable shows on TV. Somehow, it manages to effortlessly balance mythology, police business, romantic intrigue and (secret weapon) wickedly cheeky humour. Based on this new season three promo, we can expect even more of that when the show returns.

One highlight of the coming season looks to be the rivalry between Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Lt Marcus Pierce, a new character played by Tom Welling (Smallville). Pierce will be sticking his fingers into Lucifer’s sweet gig consulting for the LAPD — as well as potentially interfering with his complicated relationship with Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German). We saw a similar dynamic between Lucifer and Dan (Kevin Alejandro) in season one, so we already know that Lucifer is at his funniest when he’s being continuously bedevilled (sorry) by an irritating mortal.
Lucifer returns to FX on October 3.
