Cory Doctorow, Claire North And Sylvain Neuvel Will Seek To Depress Us Beyond Words With The Black Mirror Book

Black Mirror is bringing its brand of haunting dystopian storytelling away from the television screen and into the realm of books — and now we know the authors who will help bring Charlie Brooker’s weird, often morbid world to the page.

Penguin Random House has announced the three writers for Black Mirror Volume 1: A Literary Season, which as a title should be indicative enough of how much this book is being sold as a new season of Black Mirror that just happens to be in print, rather than on Netflix. Even Brooker’s statement attached to the announcement, provided in a press release, is “hey, it’s Black Mirror in book form!”:

All-new Black Mirror stories from exciting authors – that’s a joyous prospect. And they’re appearing in a high-tech new format known as a “book”. Apparently you just have to glance at some sort of ‘ink code’ printed on paper and images and sounds magically appear in your head, enacting the story. Sounds far-fetched to me, but we’ll see

Although story details are being kept under wraps, each of Doctorow, North and Neuvel’s stories will be edited by Brooker himself. And you’ll actually get the next televisual season of the show before this — while Black Mirror returns to Netflix later this year, Volume 1 is set to hit shelves in February 2018.
