More Rumours About The Next Monsters Joining Universal’s Dark Universe

Dark Universe

THR reports as part of an extensive piece on Universal’s monster movie gambit that Angelina Jolie and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are still in talks to play the Bride of Frankenstein and the Wolfman, respectively. The site also says each film in the Universal Monsters stable will have “dramatically” different budgets — including some Roger Corman-level chintziness where applicable.

Avatar 2

Deadline reports Joel David Moore has officially signed on to reprise his role as anthropologist-turned-Na’vi ally Norm Spellman from the first film.

Akira

Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo told Forbes he will have to approve the concept of a US remake before one is officially put into production.

While I haven’t seen the new live-action Ghost in the Shell, when it comes to Akira I have already finished the original manga and my own anime version, too. So in that sense, I am basically done with Akira. If someone wants to do something new with Akira then I am mostly OK with that. As I accepted the offer for a live-action Akira to be made, so I am generally OK with whatever they want to do with it. However, I did give one major condition to a live-action version and that is that I had to check and approve the scenario.

Avengers: Infinity War

Sean Gunn revealed some shocking news to Movie Pilot: There are “even more” CG characters in Infinity War than Guardians of the Galaxy.

I can tell you that the process for Rocket has been very similar to the Guardian movies. If anything, it’s even more painstaking, because there are even more CGI characters around. In Guardians 2, Baby Groot was there the whole time, but the rest of the time was mostly with other live actors. In Avengers, there are several other characters who are CGI enhanced that I’ve interacted with, which makes the process a little more deliberate.

Ready Player One

Ben Mendelsohn told The Wrap he has no intention to play his villainous character, Nolan Sorrento, faithfully to Ernest Cline’s portrayal of him in the novel:

I’m not trying to be faithful to the book Sorrento at all. So, anyone that’s coming at it wanting a faithful re-creation or transposing of the written Sorrento is not gonna get it. I would rarely do that because my feeling about written literature characters is you don’t get to better them. My basic preference is to just try and wipe that slate, and to try and do it in context of what is going on around the film. I treat them as very different entities in that way.

Aquaman

Nicole Kidman told Deadline she’s excited to play a “female warrior from the sea” for James Wan.

Well, James Wan is Australian, and he’s a friend of mine. I think he’s going to make an amazing movie. We’ve always circled each other, so when he came to me, I was like, ‘James, I’ll do anything for you.’ When he said ‘female warrior from the sea’ who wears mother of pearl, I went, ‘Yes. Female warrior from the sea. Me like.’

Wonder Woman

Patty Jenkins shared one last Wonder Woman poster on Twitter.

Uncharted

Tom Holland spoke to Yahoo Movies about playing the young Nathan Drake:

It’s an exciting one. I didn’t know much about it. It sort of just came, it was a conversation I had with (studio head) Tom Rothman about the potential of different movies that I’d like to work with with Sony and I just had the idea that maybe a young Nathan Drake would be something that audiences would be very interested in. I met Shawn (Levy, director) at the MTV awards and we had a brief chat about the potential of doing an origin story rather than copying what the games have done and it seems like people have been really excited about it, I know I am. I’m excited to have some further conversations about it.

Atomic Blonde

In the latest clip, Charlize Theron kicks a ton of arse to the strains of George Michael’s “Father Figure”.

Lore

Holland Roden has been cast in Amazon’s adaptation of the horror anthology podcast. She’ll play Bridget Cleary, a 19th-century dressmaker and egg merchant whose sudden financial success leads her husband to believe she’s a fairy’s changeling. [Deadline]

Runaways

Brian K. Vaughan hyped the Hulu series to CBR:

I just did a little consulting early in the process, but I think the Runaways found the ideal ‘foster parents’ in Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. They took a weird comic set in the Marvel Universe of 2002 and lovingly adapted it into a stylish drama that feels like contemporary Los Angeles. Love the cast, crew and especially the writers they assembled. And the pilot looks like an Adrian Alphona comic! I can’t wait to watch this first season unfold.

Alex Rider

A TV series based on the popular spy-fi series of YA novels is in development at British network ITV. [Variety]

Deathstroke

Manu Bennett is gauging interest for a Deathstroke spinoff series on Twitter, because that’s what you do these days.

On the Island, Cosima struggles to comprehend the reality of the Neolution myth made real.

BENEATH HER HEART – Stuck on the sidelines with Neolutionists crawling all over her home, Alison seeks to return to her community center, but Bailey Downs has moved on from her.
