A Few Things We Noticed In The Very Packed Trailer For Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Over the weekend, we got a trailer for Kingsman: The Golden Circle. And, while the joy of these movies is the ride more than the mystery, there are some things we noticed we just need to share.

This isn’t our usual frame-by-frame analysis, it’s mostly what we’ve seen of the new American spy agency, Statesman, and how they compare to the very British Kingsmen. Also to talk about things I happen to love about it.

Roxy (Sophie Cookson)! I swear to god, if Roxy dies my rage will burn the planet down. It will be my supervillain origin story. Do not take her away from me.

Merlin (Mark Strong), my other favourite from the last movie, reveals an assortment of weapons so stereotypically American, I spontaneously burst into the “Star-Spangled Banner.” These are, presumably, the gear of the Statesmen, the American version of the Kingsmen that play a huge role in sequel. Where the Brits get, you know, suits and umbrellas, Americans have cowboy hats and baseballs.

Michael Gambon is the new Arthur. But not for long.

As I may have mentioned: If Roxy dies, my fury will be greater than this explosion. It’s supposedly Merlin and Eggsy against the world now, and I am furious.

Also, note that the “missile incoming” bit is shown as one of those projections only visible through the special Kingsman glasses.

I just really want you to take in the detail on the jumpsuits of Agent Whiskey (Pedro Pascal) and Eggsy (Taron Egerton). Drink it in. Remember the old west and cry.

A) the Statesman entrance isn’t a tailor as much as it is a whiskey distillery. B) Looks like Agent Tequila (Channing Tatum) isn’t glad to see them. Some tension between the two groups. Or they think Eggsy and Merlin are to blame. Could be either.

God, Tequila’s belt buckle is just…so….much.

Remember Charlie Hesketh (Edward Holcroft), the failed Kingsman recruit/very upperclass twit who ended up on the villain’s side last time? So he apparently survived that event, but now he has one arm and is working for new villain Poppy (Julianne Moore).

This bit with Pedro Pascal is definitely someone’s fetish. Meanwhile, there are so many things that are parallels from the first film. Bad guy with a prostheses altered to kill, Eggsy and Merlin on their own, even this bit is the American version of the bar scene in the first.

I’m not saying that’s bad, of course. Just pointing out that they recognised things everyone loved.

This is cut to look like the bottle causes an explosion on a gondola, but the bottle says Kingsman and the jacket looks like the one Eggsy’s wearing right after HQ explodes. So I’m betting it’s not actually the cause.

This is the only shot of our new villain in the trailer, and a) she’s in the beef industry, maybe? b) Americana on her desk because this movie is steeped in it.

Looks like Merlin’s counterpart across the pond is Ginger (Halle Berry).

And Arthur’s is Agent Champagne (Jeff Bridges).

And, as well all knew, Harry (Colin Firth) did not die in the last film. he does appear to be living in a padded cell of some kind. With oh so many butterfly drawings on the wall. Eggsy and Merlin’s reaction looks like either they tapped into a security camera or it’s from a different scene entirely where Harry walks in. The former suggests capture, the latter something else.

I am, despite the repetition and the undead, pumped for this. I love a good, ridiculous spy movie that knows it’s good and ridiculous.

Unless Roxy dies. Then I won’t care.
