Syfy announced that it’s developing The Woods, an hour-long sci-fi drama about a high school that wakes up on a foreign moon, based on the YA graphic novel series from Boom! Studios.
The Woods is about a high school campus from Wisconsin of over 500 students, teachers, and employees, who all vanish from Earth and wake up in the middle of the woods on a distant planet’s moon. The woods are filled with monsters and animals, as well as other humans who’ve come before. The kids and adults have to survive while also trying to find a way home.
The Woods is one of Boom!’s most popular comic book series, currently on issue 27 of its 36-issue run. The first issue of The Woods sold out of its first-print run of 10,000 copies in a week, and the series was later named a 2016 Best Graphic Novel for Young Adults by YALSA.
San Andreas director Brad Peyton has signed on to produce and direct the Syfy TV series. Boom! has several other projects in the works, including feature films like Malignant Man, based on James Wan’s graphic novel, The Lumberjanes, and The Empty Man.
This isn’t even the developer’s only TV show they’re working on, they have also got Hacktivist in the works, along with Butterfly in the UK and Cow Boy with Dreamworks. In short, Boom!’s business is booming.
