The only Mon Mothma line anyone remembers in the original Star Wars trilogy is “Many Bothans died to bring us this information.” With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story being about the Rebellion stealing Death Star plans, everyone keeps making Bothan jokes. Please stop it. Because many Bothans did not die to bring us this specific information.

By the way, after everyone makes this joke to me (including an unnamed editor, who made me feel like I wasn’t even safe in my own office), I am always, always asked what a Bothan is. So let’s do this now, too.
Although no longer canon, in the old EU, they were fur-covered aliens from Bothawui who are good at computer hacking. They are also very concerned with status and their most famous member in the books was Borsk Fey’lya. He was a dick. But even if he’s going to make it to the new SW canon, he won’t be dying during Rogue One either, OK?
