Not that a play on Broadway is any more accessible for most people than one in the West End, but at least we finally know when and where Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is headed.

The plan is for the show to open in the Lyric Theatre in the autumn of 2018, right after the Lyric is completely remodelled to accommodate the production, which is, by all accounts, very elaborate. The theatre will go from having 1900 seats to having 1500.
“When the redesigned Lyric was presented to us as an idea and what the possibilities could be, we re-thought the whole thing and totally fell in love with the notion of a theatre being created especially for the Cursed Child, overseen by designer Christine and our director John Tiffany,” said producer Sonia Friedman. Of course, that’s all assuming they get the requisite permits to make the theatre changes.
The new space will also allow the Cursed Child team to create an experience that is similar to, but not just a recreation, of the one currently on stage in London. That said, one thing they are keeping is a ticketing plan that provides low-priced seats throughout the space. So, Potter fans who haven’t made plans to go to London in the next year, consider New York in 2018.
