A Cut Fantastic Beasts Scene Involved A Lot Of Singing

I know that when I think of falling in love, I think of my school song.

Slashfilm has the details on two deleted scenes from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them from director David Yates. One is a heartbreaking bit where Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) loses his fiancee because he didn’t get a loan to start a bakery. Which is sad but at least that leaves him free to fall in love with one of the Goldstein sisters. The second shows him falling in love.

That scene has Porpentina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) and Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol) singing the Ilvermorny school song together while Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and Jacob watch them. Here’s how Yates described it:

There’s another scene where Alison and Katherine [Waterston] sing the Ilvermorny song, the school song. I asked Alison would she write it, and she wrote this beautiful Ilvermorny school song. And they sing it together and the two boys, Jacob and Newt, they sit there and they watch. And as the girls perform this song, this ode to Ilvermorny, they slowly fall in love.

Both scenes sound quite lovely and give a sense of the human drama at the centre of this film. If this is what got cut, what stayed in better be as good.
