We’ve already had some hints about the new Stranger Things characters for season two (and hints are all we hope to get, Netflix). But now we have a bit more news on that front. One of the just-cast actors is Dacre Montgomery, who’ll be playing the Red Ranger in the new Power Rangers movie.

In Stranger Things, Montgomery will play the “hyper-confident” and “edgy” Billy, per Netflix’s official character description, which also notes “he steals girlfriends away from their boyfriends, is great at drinking games, and drives a black Camaro. But lurking under his apparent charisma is a violent and unpredictable nature.” Sounds like a teenager with attitude to me, so it’s presumably within his wheelhouse.
Meanwhile, Sadie Sink has been cast as Billy’s younger step-sister, Max. Sink got her show-biz start playing the title role in Broadway’s Annie revival, and has since notched roles on TV shows like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which, like Stranger Things, is a Netflix show. Max is “a tough and confident girl whose appearance, behaviour and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in this era. She has a complicated history and is generally suspicious of those around her.”
Netflix also noted in its release that Joe Keery (AKA Steve Harrington, who’s probably going to clash with that Billy fellow) and Noah Schnapp (Will Byers, back from the Upside Down) have been promoted to series regulars.
Dammit, Netflix. We asked you to stop telling us about season two!
