Video: This October, Fox is joining the recent trend of US network musicals with a new rendition of cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The first teaser trailer has just been released and it looks familiar, but there’s also something off-putting about the way it was filmed.
Here’s the trailer.
The cast (including Victoria Justice as Janet, Ryan McCartan as Brad and Laverne Cox as Dr Frank-N-Furter) all look pretty great. But director Kenny Ortega obviously made some kind of specific decision in terms of the visuals once they get into the house. Maybe it’s just YouTube, but … doesn’t it kind of look like it was shot in a fish tank? Like the background is purposely blurry? I’m not sure what the idea is here. Maybe it’s to make things feel very fantastic and dreamlike? Either way, it’s weird. It will probably work, but it’s weird.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show airs in October in the US.
