NBC just put a lot of faith in DC's foray into the world of superhero comedy -- Powerless, the long-in-the-works show about an insurance company working in the DC Comics universe. The show has received a full series order on the network, and to celebrate, DC released the first pictures from the show's pilot last week, which stars Vanessa Hudgens as Emily Locke, an insurance adjuster with a speciality in helping out average people affected by the wanton destruction of superhero fights.
In the pilot, Emily stands up to one hero -- minor DC character Crimson Fox, who you can see above (and see more of in set photos that hit the web earlier this year) -- when a fight interrupts her morning commute, making her a "hero" in her own right among her colleagues. Hudgens is joined in the series by Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi and Christina Kirk, while Ben Queen will write and produce the series.
Superheroes and comic book shows are all over TV these days. And while they run the gamut from lighthearted fun, to gritty melodrama, to camp absurdity, there's yet to be anything aiming quite so straight at comedic hijinks as Powerless. But hey, it's brought a character as obscure as the Crimson Fox into live-action, so I can't help but be intrigued so far. Here's a few more images released by DC of the show.
