To the dismay of blaster fans who’d fallen in love with the BOOMco toys, Mattel has scaled back the line and will start focusing it more on licensed properties. The silver lining to that bad news is that we’re going to be seeing more and more weapons from the Halo universe brought to life, starting with Master Chief’s trusty MA5.

It’s one of the most iconic weapons from the Halo video game series, and from what we can tell, despite not having access to the digital models used in the game, the BOOMco version is spot-on. At least aesthetically. The display on top used to keep track of your remaining rounds doesn’t actually work on this version, but we’re still glad it’s being included.

Pre-loaded magazines are loaded through the side of the MA5, and the $US50 ($70) blaster should accept all the sizes available in the BOOMco line. However, for more authenticity, the magazines included with the MA5 feature a metallic silver finish. And while one is loaded in the rifle’s chamber, the second can be stashed in the MA5’s stock as a backup. The last thing you’d want is to run out of darts when a Covenant horde is storming your ship.
