Mythbusters Puts Breaking Bad’s Car Machine Gun To The Test

Alright, if you haven’t seen Breaking Bad’s final episode, then stop right here because we’re now entering spoiler territory! If you have, well, you’ll be very aware of a certain piece of boot weaponry that served as a lead-powered denouement for the series. If you’re wondering if such a thing could be built and actually work, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman are here to help.

In this four-minute Mythbusters clip (which is thankfully devoid of endless recaps and teasers), the pair find out if an M60, set up to fire autonomously from the boot of a car, can successfully shoot without falling over or spinning out of control and penetrate the wall of house to kill its occupants.

For Breaking Bad fans, show creator Vince Gilligan makes an appearance for the experiment, to verify the setup is close to what the show had and of course, to watch the carnage.

Given that a real machine gun is used (rather than some contraption built from scratch by the team), it comes down to how well the car and rig can support the weapon as it fires. Savage and Hyneman are very good at what they do, so the results shouldn’t be all that shocking.
