Melbourne Might Finally Get Some Decent Public Transport Apps Now

Can you hear that, Melbourne? It’s the sound of developers rushing to put the State Government’s recently released public transportation dataset into a decent public transport app you can use!

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Reddit (???) yesterday the fact that the dataset had been put into the public domain:

“I wanted to tell Reddit first,” he wrote yesterday afternoon, linking to the dataset.

There’s also a funky graphic showing how crappy public transport directions on Google Maps are when you ask for a route in Melbourne.

Google Maps has already integrated the data set, meaning you can use it right now to find a bus, tram or train around the city.

I can now say I’ve upvoted a Premier on Reddit.
