This Is The TV Of The Year: Gizmodo Awards 2014

The votes are in. This is your TV of the year for 2014.

Editor’s Pick

LG 40UB800T8

There were a lot of expensive, amazing quality TVs out this year — Sony’s $25000 X9500B, LG’s $9999 EC970T, Samsung’s $5000 Series 9 Curved UHD — but what stood out even more in our minds was the genuinely massive improvement at the low end of the TV market.

Nowhere is that more obvious in the surprising quality of LG’s 40-inch 40UB800T, a beautiful small-screen TV with an incredibly detailed Ultra HD panel. You don’t get the most up-to-date WebOS Smart TV software, but LG’s Netcast is perfectly usable, and whether you’re using it for watching Blu-ray movies or as a PC monitor, the UB800T is well worth its bargain sub-$1000 asking price.
