Disney and Pixar just announced that John Lasseter will direct Toy Story 4, scheduled for release in June 2017. Yassssssssssss.
Variety reports that the announcement was made by Disney CEO Bob Iger during the company’s fourth quarter earnings call. Director John Lasseter is the Chief Creative Officer at Pixar. He directed Toy Story and Toy Story 2, but sat out 2010’s Toy Story 3. Lasseter also directed Cars, Cars 2, and A Bug’s Life.
Additional information about the new sequel isn’t available yet.
Toy Story is one of my favourite movie franchises. Sure, the films are blockbusters that cost a fortune to make and consequently mint fortunes of their own, but they’re also just great movies. All the technical achievements never get in the way of telling a lovely story. If only we didn’t have to wait almost three years to see the latest. [Variety]
