Tim Cook Talks Privacy, Watch Batteries And The Future Of TV

In a rare public interview, Tim Cooks spoke to the Wall Street Journal’s Gerard Baker at the newspaper’s 2014 global technology conference last night. Here are a few choice cuts.

Cook took to the stage to discuss Apple’s future, and along the way spoke about Apple Watch, NFC payments, TVs and the security of your data. You can read the full interview here, but below are some of the highlights.

On the privacy of Apple Pay

“We don’t want to know what you buy, we’re not into collecting data, we’re not Big Brother. We’ll leave that to others.”

On charging Apple Watch

“We think people are going to use it so much you will end up charging it daily.”

About TV right now

“We’re living in the 1970s. There’s a lot to be done in this area. What we’ll do… I won’t be so clear. I believe something great can be done.”

On iOS vs. Android turning into Mac vs. PC

“There weren’t enough apps on the Mac. That isn’t a problem for iOS. We sold a quarter billion iOS devices last year. I wouldn’t call that a low-volume business.”

On the security of your data

“Your data is yours. We don’t read your iMessages. We designed iMessage as such that we don’t read any of it.”

But that’s just a few choice snippets. Go check out the whole interview over on the Wall Street Journal. [WSJ]
