The Disneyland TV Show Debuted 60 Years Ago Today

Sixty years ago today, on October 27, 1954, the Disneyland TV show debuted on ABC in the US. The show actually existed before the theme park opened in Anaheim, California on July 17, 1955 and was in effect an advertisement for the park. But oh what a glorious advertisement it was.

Kids got a peek at the developments at Disneyland and, of course, were not so subtly sold on the idea that Disneyland was the place where all your dreams could come true.

Below, we have a segment from one of my favourite Disneyland TV episodes, Magic Highway USA. It aired on May 14, 1958, and was directed by Disney legend Ward Kimball. If you haven't seen it, the gorgeous animation and general retro-future awesomeness is well worth your time.

Also, on a somewhat related note, don't miss the tale of Karal Ann Marling, who won a free trip to Disneyland when she was a kid in the 1950s. It's absolutely unbelievable.
