JB Hi-Fi Is Now Selling Australia’s First Firefox OS Phone

Android and iOS may get all the love right now, but Mozilla has been working away on its own mobile operating system, called Firefox OS. Devices running the platform have been available on eBay since 2013, while adventurous types have been able to install it for a couple of years now. Back in February, we heard ZTE was going release Firefox OS hardware and after months of waiting, you can now pick one up in Australia for $99.

All you have to do is wander into your local (and stocked) JB Hi-Fi, with the retailer currently selling the 1.2GHz, Snapdragon-powered Open C for the aforementioned affordable sum. Ausdroid’s Daniel Tyson was made aware of the phone’s appearance yesterday and even managed to snap a photo of it and its packaging.

On the specifications-side, it won’t be busting any benchmarks wide open, but it’s still very capable with 512MB RAM, 32GB microSD support, an 480 x 800 four-inch screen and 1400mAh battery.

According to Tyson, the phone is available unlocked, so no worries there. If you’re keen to check out a Firefox OS mobile, this is a pretty cheap way of doing it.
