Ben Young taught himself everything he knows about sculpture. Over the course of the past decade, he’s perfected a method of cutting panes of glass into unusual shapes and fusing them together to make beautiful sculptures. They’re beautifully intriguing.
Some look like oceans. Some look like objects. Some just look impossible. But all of the Australian artist’s work are completely handmade in a pain-staking-sounding process. “Sometimes my start point changes dramatically as shapes can be limited — I can’t create any internal right angles — so I have to find a way to layer the glass to create certain shapes,” Young explains on his website. “I love watching the two dimensional shapes evolve into three-dimensional creations and the different way the light plays inside the glass.”
Once you think about the steps it takes to create the sculptures, it’s easier to see how the impossible forms came to be. But wow, you still expect those waves to be rolling like the ocean. [Ben Young via Abduzeedo]
