At first glance, this appears to be a fairly plain old wooden table. Wait, I can you see the leg through the tabletop? That will be because this wooden table is actually made from glass.
Designer Ron Gilad‘s latest creation uses a special printing process to create glass panels with a strong wooden texture and colour. The grain is reproduced by transparency onto the glass surface, and then the sheets are welded together to form the table.
The tables, first shown off at Salone del Mobile 2014, are in fact available in a range of sizes: a full dining table, and cute, small low side tables. You can also get them in plain glass, without the wood design — but that’s just boring. [Ron Gilad via Design Boom]
