Energy-efficient LEDs have only just started replacing the energy-wasting incandescent bulbs we’ve been using for decades. But did you know that LEDs date all the way back to 1962? Most people don’t, but this modern lamp designed to look like Nick Holonyak Jr.’s original LED design should help educate the masses — or anyone who visits your pad.
Available with hand-blown tinted glass globes or clear versions, the LED 1.0 lamps probably aren’t cheap, even though they’re just improperly scaled reproductions of a piece of technological history. And, from the looks of it, Alburno may have used halogen bulbs in these lamps instead of actual LEDs, which is both disappointing but also a bit ironic. Fifty-two years later LEDs are still fighting for acceptance. [Alburno via Gessato]
