Attention all sophisticated super freaks: this one’s for you. Say hello to the Disco Dish, a flashy light fixture from the off-kilter creative mind of Dutch designer Bertjan Pot.
The series is a new take on his Disco Dome pendants, that flipped the familiar glitter ball inside out; these are two new models — floor and pendant — and they are not for the faint of heart, timid of style, or short of space.
Each saucer measures almost three-feet in diameter (!), adorned with a staggering number of teensy mirrored squares. I’m getting space age Hollywood by way of Saturday Night Fever vibes, plus some of this pizzeria — kitschy and classy — and you know what? I’m loving it.
As tech gets better and bulbs keep shrinking, fixtures have followed suit. For the most part, this is great news — especially for folks who live in teensy studio apartments — but it’s fun to see someone embrace an ultra-bold, shamelessly groovy aesthetic.
I mean, c’mon, look at that. I bet you’re gifted with the meaning of life if you stare into it when it’s on. Or you’ll go blind. I wouldn’t recommend it.
