No one really waits until a battery is completely and utterly dead before tossing it — we usually swap them out when a remote starts to get finicky or a torch begins to dim. So it’s estimated that most discarded batteries have an average of 400 milliamps of power left in them, a fact this clever advertisement capitalises on to recharge mobile phones.
Created by a marketing agency hawking a soymilk drink in Thailand, the ad harnesses 1500 supposedly dead batteries and invites passersby to charge their mobile devices. All-in-all over 140 smartphones were successfully recharged from the recovered cache of batteries, and it makes you wonder why we’re installing wind mills everywhere when mountains of dying batteries could easily solve our energy woes.
