Samsung may well be the first company to actually deliver on the endless promise that flexible displays are on the way, with a limited edition Galaxy Note 3 with a plastic OLED screen said to be in production.
Obviously the fact that this screen will (almost certainly) have to be stuck inside the usual rigid smartphone shell means it won’t actually bend or flex, but it should ensure the phone is lighter and the display ought to be much, much tougher and resistant to drops and smashes.
According to Chinese news site IT.sohu which quotes the Asian Daily, the idea behind its early introduction is so that Samsung might be seen as leading when it comes to introducing new forms of tech for once, rather than the current situation it’s in where it’s considered more of an aggregator of other companies’ innovations.
